Five Years Bulgarian Haiku Club

The Bulgarian haiku club was founded on 14.09.2000 when in the Sofia Municipal Library 30 haiku poets decided to start working together for the development of the young Bulgarian haiku poetry.Between them were the well-known Bulgarian poets: Dimitar Stefanov, Zdravko Kisyov,Stanko Natsev, Hristo ke Pella, Omila-Tsveta Djagarova, Georgi Todorov, Rajna Sotirova, aswell the guests Jim Kacian (USA) and Dimitar Anakiev (Slovenia).

Till that moment in Bulgaria have been published only 10 haiku collections by 6 authors. Now the books are more then 70, and the poets who write haiku - 40.For 5 years the Bulgarian haiku club has published 6 anthologies with Bulgarian haiku (The seeds of the Rain, The Flower, The Bird, The Song of the Water, Thresholds), European haiku poetry (The Rose) and World haiku (The Road).

More than 60 articles about the Bulgarian haiku have been published in Bulgarian, Serbian, Slovenian, Macedonian, Russian, German, Japanese, Rumanian, Hungarian newspapers, magazines and web sites.

In July 2005 the Bulgarian haiku club was the host of the Third Conference of WHA gathering about 100 famous poets from 12 countries and 4 continents.


For its fifth anniversary the BHC published the first issue of the new Bulgarian haiku almanac “Ginko”- haiku poetry and esseys from all over the world.
