First Prize ($100)

Ivan Podvez, Croatia

Radnici u šumi
za odmora blaguju
šumsku tišinu

Workers in the forest
at rest are tasting
a woodland silence.

By peculiar easiness and serenity the author carries all the calm of forest
into the verses, in which all unnatural sounds of the wood-cutters' work
faded away. Will the workers after this "dining silence of the woodland"
continue the work at all?

Second Prize ($50)

Kirsty Karkow, USA

slano močvarje
los podiže paroške
s kojih kaplje korov

salt marsh
the moose lifts antlers
dripping with weeds

Impressive picture from the region so strange to Croatia, which however
becomes close and crystal clear, as if it had always been here, in only one
carefully noticed sudden movement of the moose.

Third Prize (3 x $20)

1. Verica Živkovič, Yugoslavia

Stišava se oluja ...
Pod kopitima konja
škripe zrna grada.

The tempest clears up ...
Under the hooves of the horse
hailstones are rasping.

Pacifying of the storm and biting sound of rasping of still unmelted
granules of the hail under the horse's hooves brings convincing and strong
contrast of the peace.

2. Vera Zemunić , Croatia

Usred dana
upalili maslačci
bijele lampače.

In the midday
dandelions light up
white lanterns.

Experience well known to the most readers finally told by full sincerity of
haijinship. Even the most sunny day is brighter when illuminated by these
lanterns.

3. Marela Mimica, Croatia

Na vrtuljku
skupa se okreću
djeca i nebo.

On the carrousel
kids and the sky
rotating together

Rotation brings elation. The sky "turns round" anyway, but on the carrousel
and with the children's cries of joy ...
