A SCARECROW IN
THE SNOW

haiku

to the Bookshop ...

going nowhere
during the air-raid alarm -
a scarecrow

broken bridge
on its pier
a gull's shadow

green meadow -
mingled with flowers
NATO leaflets

boat on the river -
cast upon the water
the fisherman's shadow

sleepless night -
the gust of wind
brings a dog's howl

The Aleksander Pavic collection A Scarecrow in the Snow contains no examples of "anti haiku" (under the label of haiku); nor weak haiku (the "so what ?" haiku), false stances and intellectualizations. I think that I can say that this is a rare haiku volume in this country, though as many as fifty books are printed under this category each year.
